RFRSH.YOR.PLYLST | Fresh Squeeze

Posted by Familiar Joe On August - 28 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

This is the very first installment of Fresh Squeeze, a bi-weekly music blog bringing you bangers from all sides of the EDM lifestyle. If you  are catching my drift, I don’t like to keep it all about one specific genre. The general idea behind Fresh Squeeze is simple, I want to share my favorite music with you. The music I take the time every day to dig up from the depths of the internet (to your speakers). Attempting to keep this short and to the point, here are a few tracks for you to munch on.

Joe Nice AkA Mr. Niceguy

Mr.Nice guy..

Whether you like it or not, Joe has a large role in bringing the dubstep scene to critical mass across our nation (see what I did there?).  31 years young coming out of Baltimore, Joe Nice may have been around a lot longer than you thought. His very first time hearing dubstep was in 2002, that same year he decided to produce some dub himself. The rest is history, and somewhere in the future (check out his soundcloud, he’s been hard at work) What stands out about this guy is his willingness to work with songs by producers who are really not that well known, and convincing you that it very well should be playing in the clubs on the regular. (especially in EDM & Dub).

Tightrope (Mr.NiceGuy Remix) by Mr. NiceGuy

If you like diplo’s remix of “Hip hop”, you will want to make love to this track mix. Because of this track, I will keep a watchful eye on WTF!?

WTF!? and Dead Prez – “It’s Bigger Than Hip Hop UK” by Some Kind of Awesome

My old buddy Brent over at Full Sail turned me on to this track this evening over a very random phone call only telling me to listen to these last 2 mixes. Very exclusive stuff especially if you are a fan of Wolfgang Gartner or Deadmau5. I can only assume this 2nd production is unfinished, hence the “untitled” title.

Kill The Noise- My World (Charles I Remix) by Charles I

Deadmau5 & Wolfgang Gartner – Untitled by vClubMusic

I could sit here all night and turn this post in to an encyclopedia of dank ass dub, but what would be the fun in that? If you have any music you think I might enjoy enough to actually feature it in Fresh Squeeze, you can try to enlighten me..

Alright, I changed my mind. You will be hearing more of this around in the future mark my words. I like to think of it as Rapstep.  Let me introduce you to King Fantastic.

EZF 09 = Success =New York Finally has an Electronic Festival

Posted by Familiar Joe On September - 14 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Ive been waiting for my friend to send me my high res photo’s from Electric Zoo before I posted this blog, but I can’t wait any longer.

Finally New York has a Electronic Festival that they can look forward to annually, it’s about time. My first day at the Zoo reminded me of my first time at UMF minus the lines. I went straight to the media tent to get my tickets and media bracelets and realized pretty quick that it was the perfect weather, time, and location for this event. I read the line up for Day 1 over again as soon as I got situated inside, I was stoked. When you have Busy P, Deadmau5, DJ Mehdi, Kaskade, Benny Benassi, Steve Aoki & David Guetta all on one small island in the middle of NYC you quickly realize you are in for a ridiculous evening.

All of these people would agreeBut we all know, a huge Electronic music festival wouldn’t be the same without these individuals.

Don’t forget this guy!

I do have to say though, for the extremely small amount of advertisement Made did for Electric Zoo a LOT of people made it out there to Randall’s Island. One thing that stood out to me about this Festival compared to UMF. I didn’t leave spending over $100 dollars just on food and water! There was also numerous vendors handing out free shitty tasting drinks for the slackers who didn’t realize they would need to bring cash to such a place. Calcium enhanced sodas to be exact; tasted like 1/2 Milk 1/2 Mountain Dew. My favorite performances from Day 1 happened to all be on the same stage, lucky me.

DJ Mehdi and Busy P dedicated a few of their songs to DJ AM (not officially, but I know). Of course blasting his infamous track, To Protect and Entertain Busy P had an intense set. Mehdi and Busy P shared their set times while mixing together coming up with some real potential club bangers. Over all I was 100% pleased with their sets. If you saw Steve Aoki any of the times he has stopped in Orlando and were pleased with his performance, you really missed out then. He played a bunch of fresh tracks im assuming were made with Bob Rifo judging by the style of the stuff that stood out (aka Rifoki). He couldn’t end his set without playing Warp, of course.

*wonders if Warp 1.9 will soon join the list of songs to not be played in a club after 2009*

Main Stage, crowd is only 1/3 of what it reached later in the night at this point.Deadmau5

;) The only reason I went to Day 2 was David Guetta, of course my camera battery was dead so I couldn’t catch any photo’s of this insane show. I was more impressed by the lazers than Guetta’s selection of songs aka top 40 playlist, then again I don’t know what else I expected. Either way, I loved every minute of it.
All in all, I will be visiting the Zoo again next year. It’s the perfect time in the middle of the year to get your 6 month fix of electronic/house music before the WMC/Ultra comes back around. For the record though…

I ♥ THE BLOODY BEETROOTS….and this is why

Posted by Familiar Joe On April - 7 - 2009 5 COMMENTS

Bobby Rifo and DJ Tommy Tea seem to be doing something right. If you don’t know these guys, they are the duo of musicians that make up The Bloody Beetroots.BBR

When I was leaving UMF 11 on the first day I watched The Bloody Beetroots play a small set on the Biscayne stage.  It was by far one of the best sets of the night, I have to say it was a hell of a lot better than Deadmau5 7 minute set on the main stage. ( I also have to point out Deadmau5 set on day 2 blew everything away) but enough about UMF…

They bring the hype of a rock show, together with the insanity, rhythm, and bass of a club scene all in one performance. Bobby Rifo specifically has a deep musical background listening to classical, new wave , and punk to name a few genres. This is where it all started for Bob. Only recently has The Bloody Beetroots moved on to a real drum and bass, or electro feel. Their remixes and tracks are only getting better , I think they deserve a listen.

Photobucket
In 2007 after other groups (MSTRKRFT, Justice, etc) started to notice that The Bloody Beetroots had a lot to offer, things only got better from there. Plain and simple, they are making a reputation for themselves. As soon as Steve Aoki saw them perform, he signed them to his own Dim Mak label here in the states.

My point is, keep an eye on these guys.
