Probably the saddest thing for any guy (.. and of course, the women going through it.) is breast cancer. I mean this in the nicest and most sensitive way when I say, “We love em’. With the risk of breast increasing with age – a little awareness for our demographic wouldn’t hurt. Statistics show that every 13 minutes, someone dies of breast cancer (see About.com). That’s scary as fuck.. to be put bluntly.

So you’re probably asking yourself, “How can I get involved?” If not – you’re definitely going to Hell. Well, I’ve got your answer..

On October 5th, we’ve got a Race For The Cure at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, which has raised over $180 million in breast cancer research over the years since the Susan G Komen Foundation was conceived. It’s the largest 5k series that’s being held in over 100 cities. If you follow the link, you can register to compete or you can still signup to participate on the day of the race.

With that in mind, a very good friend of mine is participating in the event and raising money for the foundation as well, — Monica Murillo. Her mother is a strong breast cancer survivor and recently her grandmother was diagnosed with the disease. You can help her raise money by visiting her link to donate money to the Susan G Komen foundation on her behalf.

Registration begins at 6:30am this Sunday! The race will begin around 7:45am! Sign up now or register when you get there!

Travis Barker has been burned from the waist down, but he is expected to survive the plane crash. DJ AM’s face was severely burned and is being tended. A publicist for Travis Barker and DJ AM issued the following statement…

“Both Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) are in critical but stable condition and are being treated at Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia after surviving a plane crash late last night in Columbia, South Carolina.

The hospital will issue a statement with an update on their condition at 9:00 am eastern time tomorrow. Due to the nature of the injuries and the evolving course of treatment no further information on their condition is available at this time.

The accident claimed the lives of four people on board, two of whom, Chris Baker (Lil Chris) and Charles Stills (Che), were close friends of the injured.

On behalf of Travis Barker and DJ AM, deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of all who perished in the crash. As the two recuperate and mourn this loss, privacy for them, their families, and friends is requested at this time.”

Tragedy struck in South Carolina last night, as drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM, aka Adam Goldstein, were critically injured in a Learjet crash that took the lives of four others. I just had blogged about how insane their latest mixtape was, it has gone on to get excellent reviews and massive amounts of downloads from their official website … From the LAT report:

“Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane headed for Van Nuys, Calif., went off a runway, through a fence and crashed on a nearby road, officials said.

The Lexington County coroner said today that pilot Sarah Lemmon of Anaheim Hills and co-pilot James Bland of Carlsbad died. Also killed were passengers Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles.”

They were headed back to L.A. after performing a free T-Mobile-sponsored show in the Five Points area of South Carolina near the University of South Carolina, along with DJ Steve Aoki, Perry Farrell and headliner Gavin DeGraw. The show reportedly drew 10,000 people. TMZ is reporting they saved their own lives by jumping out of the wreckage; both are expected to survive, but have sustained serious burns. Two weeks ago they were at the VMAs as members of the house band backing a wide array of vocalists. More as it becomes available…
