Steve Aoki took the Saturday/Thursday party at Firestone to another level last night! The Dim Mak don played an unbelievable set covering everything from MSTRKRFT & Erik Prydz, to Queen and Bon Jovi. The crowd sung along as Aoki jumped around, danced on the DJ booth, climbed speakers, and poured grey goose into fans mouths.
I was very impressed at how smoothly he mixed from track to track, not missing one beat, all while dancing, jumping and falling all over the place. At one point in the night Steve was standing on top of the DJ setup next to the turntables, as he went to jump off he lost his footing and hit his head on a table behind the booth. He seemed to black out for 10-15 seconds, for a moment I was really concerned but as we went to help him up he came to. He looked bewildered for a second but then just began to smile and jumped right back up in front of the turntables!!
Aoki AKA Kid Millionaire is the ultimate party DJ, his track selection was so versatile covering multiple genres and making it all sound so good together. Steve also brought along a bunch of rad Dim Mak gear including some special limited edition Tees which he was signing for the fans.
After Steve closed his set with an epic rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, I had the daunting task of following him to close out the night. I continued in the same musical direction as him, dropping the Sebastian remix of “Killing in the name of” along with other party favorites. A few tracks into my closing set I played Steve Aoki’s remix of MetroStation’s “Control”. He got back up on stage with me and we jumped threw the track together throwing bottles in the air. I guess Steve decided my shirt wasn’t cool enough, so he ripped it off my head and fitted me up with a fresh Dim Mak tee all while exposing my pancake nipples to the packed crowd!
