Arden Villas Independence Day Splash Pool Party w/ Docta Dawe, Justin James, and Kid Juda

What better way to spend 4th of July than at a East Orlando pool party!! If you have been to the last two pool parties we were involved in this summer, you know we do it right. If you forgot how crazy they were, just check out the pics here and here. Soooo we decided to do it again, and at a different location. This time its going down at Arden Villas and will pretty much be an all out free-for-all. Bring your floaties, and your beer goggles, because its going downnnnn with free beer all day as your serenaded by the sounds of Kid Juda, Justin James, and Myself, DJ Docta Dawe. $10 all you can drink beer, all day. B-Live: A-Trak, Matt & Kim, DJ Jazzy Jeff

Via the Orlando Weekly: Bacardi, the propagators of the liquor that launched a thousand rap lyrics from artists grateful for a word to rhyme with “party,” presents its free concert series with headliner A-Trak. The turntable wunderkind and paramour of Kid Sister is a marvel to watch behind the decks, and you couldn’t ask for a better master of ceremonies on a hot July Fourth holiday. In addition, the Bacardi B-Live lineup boasts the hummable talents of Brooklyn duo Matt & Kim, whose last stop in Orlando landed the Matt half in the hospital with back injuries. (His publicist says he’s better now but that our city should take it easy on him.) Also on the bill is Will Smith sidekick DJ Jazzy Jeff, who posted on Twitter that the plug had been pulled from his June 6 Kansas City set for spinning hip-hop. A plethora of excuses were offered by the venue – he was asked beforehand not to play rap; the sound mix was too loud – but Jeff called it censorship. The incident landed the winner of the first-ever Grammy award for rap back in headlines for the first time in decades, and not a moment too soon. Jazzy Jeff has continued his post-Fresh Prince career with class and mastery, mentoring countless young artists and releasing a stellar hip-hop–soul album in 2007. Of course, if Jazzy Jeff doesn’t spin a little “Summertime,” feel free to pull his plug again. So as I surfed the internet looking for my next blog topic, I realized that basically every local, and national blog still had Michael Jackson on the front page. Orlando is the city that sleeps, most of the year, but ESPECIALLY during summertime. I have come to the conclusion that you don’t want to party anymore Orlando, you are LAME. I think DJ AM pretty much got it right with this one:

When he played here at Club Destiny almost 2 years ago there was a whopping 75-100 people there, and it was heavily advertised on the radio. Orlando, you have failed, and have been failing for years. I could go on forever, but I don’t want to talk about what is wrong with this city anymore. The problem lies with the people that live here. Clint House, AKA “Mr. Orlando” posted this note on his Facebook earlier today…

In this business I try to hook everybody up as much as I can. Whether it be free entrance or free drinks or a good deal on bottles, I try to take care of as many people as I can. But what I dont understand is when people bitch and complain about having to pay a cover when the club is giving away free drinks. HOLY SHIT ITS FUCKING $5 to get into the club that is giving you FREE FUCKING DRINKS. I mean Jesus Christ really? You can’t fork out $5 to get free drinks? Yes ideally it would be great to be able to go out downtown and not have to pay for anything and get the ultimate hook up, but come on you arent a superstar, you arent anyone famous, so stop bitching about having to pay the cover charge if you are getting free drinks.

Rule # 1 - YOU CANT GET EVERYTHING FOR FREE!!! Promoting is a business, the club is a business, you can’t expect to get everything for free from a business. If that was the case it would be called a charity for alcoholics…not a business. 

Rule # 2 - Guest lists are not always for free entrance. Sometimes they can be for skipping the line, or getting VIP, or for making sure your sister doesn’t have to fuck the door guy to get in. Whatever the case a guest list is just a list of people coming out. So don’t get your panties in a bunch if you don’t get in for free just because you are on the list. 

Rule # 3 - Free drinks are well liquors. Yeah the cheap shit. Because the club knows that people who are only coming out for free drinks are cheap people. Only in certain cases and for special events will a club give away free premium drinks and only for a short amount of time. Thats how a club makes money, off its alcohol sales. Clubs make DICK off the door. So don’t bitch to the promoter when you arent getting a free jack and coke or a free gay ass martini. Take your well vodka and cranberry that you didnt pay anything for and shut the fuck up. 

Bottom line is that we cant give you everything for free. In a perfect world where money didnt make the decisions then yeah we could, but thats not the case. A $5 cover charge is nothing so why do people bitch when they have to pay cover? I could understand if we were down in Miami and you were having to pay $20 + to get in but come on really….$5? Also I understand that if a promoter tells you its free entrance on the list and then you get there and its not, that you are pissed at the promoter. At the same time most clubs downtown only do free entrance on the list until a certain time. After that its either full price or half off. Either way when the promoter tells you to be there by a certain time to get in for free, dont be pissed off when you show up 30 minutes late and dont get in for free. ITS YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT for being late. 

**Service Announcement** If the club gives away free drinks most likely its not free entrance. If drinks are on a special then the promoter can most likely get you free entrance. ITS EITHER OR NOT BOTH!! So dont expect free entrance and free drinks. If you have a problem with that…get over it.

I am so tired of bitching about this city I don’t even want to post blogs like this anymore. Why don’t people in this town like to have fun? Why are they all cheap fucks? Why won’t they embrace events with any sort of culture behind them? Not that project bikini had that ::sorry Clint  ::  ….but Clint does have valid points about people being CHEAP. Like he said, take a vacation to Miami, EVERWHERE is $20-$50 to get in, and then the drinks are $10 a piece. On the other hand Miami Nightlife is much more evolved than Orlando Nightlife. The production is much more advanced, the DJs are much more talented, and are able to play a cultured playlist to a cultured crowd. The clubs are also WAYYYYY nicer, and they are MAINTAINED, with beautiful VIP areas, unbelievable lighting, and stylish decor. They aren’t rocking the same layout that they were in 2002, they UPDATE and REMODEL on a yearly basis. Orlando will always settle for places like Scoops and TDs, and as long as places like that still are in business, Orlando will be no different than Bumfuck, Kentucky. Who’s ready to make Orange County Concepts - ORANGE COUNTY CONCEPTS?? I give up, WHO’S COMING WITH ME?!?!?!

Chris wanted to let all the ladies know he got a haircut today.

As the news broke today about Michael Jackson’s death many websites reporting the news were effected by the massive amount of hits they were receiving. The news topped updates on Twitter and caused huge spikes of visits to Facebook and other Web sites. My own twitter, and facebook homepages were a sea of Jackson comments, as I posted earlier. At one point I had two full pages of status updates related to Michael Jackson. Facebook’s people said that user “status updates” on typically a quick, short comment to a user’s personal network of friends and acquaintances, were running at three times the usual pace in the hour after the news broke. Such updates “are still well above our usual numbers,” after 5 p.m.

On the “google trends” website (http://www.google.com/trends), Michael Jackson related searches including “michael jackson died”, “michael jackson dead 2009″, “michael jackson heart attack”, and others were six of the top ten search requests. Two other noteworthy searches were “harrsion ford dead” and “jeff goldblum dead”, both rumors started through twitter status updates.

Micheal Jackson’s death broke Google for a time today. So many people around the world were typing the words “Michael Jackson” into the search engine simultaneously that Google News’ computer filters assumed someone was spamming the system. Instead of news about the King of Pop’s death, many frustrated users got an error message. “We’re sorry … but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application,” the error message read. Google officials said the problem was fixed within 35 minutes.

According to TMZ.com, who broke the news of his death first, The internet hasn’t seen this kind of traffic “since Obama’s inauguration”. Throughout my own internet surfing today I have been unable to connect to, LATimes.com, TMZ.com, Twitter.com, PerezHilton.com, and most interestingly Theo2.co.uk. Theo2.co.uk is the website for O2, the arena in London where Jackson was scheduled to perform 50 sold out shows at starting next month.

And of course, our own orangecountyconcepts.com… I blogged about this story minutes after the first TMZ report making our site one of the first blogs to feature the story. According to TMZ.com, who broke the news of his death first, The internet hasn’t seen this kind of traffic since Obama’s inauguration.

Is there any other celebrity in the world who’s death could make such a huge cultural impact? Obviously it would be tasteless to mention who else could bring the web to a hault, but I believe that there are very few others, and would put Michael Jackson in the top 3 of this list. Every news station has abandoned regular programing and is now reporting in non-stop blocks about the King of Pop’s death. As I personally reflect, from the view of a DJ, and someone who has been in the music industry for years now, its hard to imagine DJing one night, at a club, bar, or even a wedding or bar mitzvah without Michael Jackson…. His music was timeless and bridged the generational gap. 750 million albums sold, that will NEVER happen again.

The LA Times is now reporting that Michael Jackson has died. CNN is reporting that CBS has reported his death as well. CNN still has not officially confirmed his death. Most every TV network has now said he has died, but that the reports are unconfirmed. This story is now on the front page of nearly every news organization website in the world. Wolf Blitzer reporting live on CNN is repeating that he has died, as live aerial shots from UCLA Medical Center show thousands of people arriving to the hospital to pay tribute.

A spokesman for the family, Brian Oxman just made a reference to “prescription drug abuse” as the cause of the situation, he continued on to say “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”. He made this statement less than 10 minutes ago on CNN. Oxman can be seen in the picture below to the left of Jackson.

The social networking websites are flooded with people reacting to the news, famous and not so famous. Here are a few noteworthy tweets that have been coming in:

The social networking sites like twitter and facebook, as well as sites like TMZ.com and Perez Hilton’s hugely popular blog have come to a slow pase. Hundreds of thousands of tweets and facebook status updates about Jackson have been pouring in over a very short time. TMZ.com reported the news first, and soon after was overloaded, and unaccessible. Second, the LA Times reported the news, and then that site went down. We took screen shots immediately when the story broke, which you can see below:

This is definitely one of those “Where were you at when…” moments that only happens a few times in a lifetime.

TMZ.com has reported that Michael Jackson has died. They have not sited any sources, and this may be an example of irresponsible reporting as no official news has been issued. TMZ.com is overloaded with web traffic and is now loading sparatically. According to another source local LA TV stations are reporting he has died also… CNN’s Wolf Blitzer is reporting that Michael Jackson is in a coma (as of 6:25pm EST).

BREAKING NEWS!!

Pop star Michael Jackson was rushed to a hospital this afternoon by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. Paramedics responded to a call at Jackson’s home around 12:26 p.m. He was not breathing when they arrived. The parademics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center.

HOLY SHIT!!

Vince Carter is heading home, to central Florida — and he’s bringing Ryan Anderson with him.

The Nets have agreed in principle to trade their most dynamic player and top gate attraction to the Orlando Magic in exchange for three players, which will effectively help them clear roughly $18 million off their 2010-11 salary cap.

Coming to New Jersey are point guard Rafer Alston, power forward Tony Battie, and rookie shooting guard Courtney Lee.

So it seems that some of you have yet to become acquainted with the “bastard step child of irony”. From reactions across Facebook, Twitter and dare I say it, even the blogs of OrangeCountyConcepts.com it has become very apparent that some of you JUST DON’T GET IT. After coming to this conclusion I said to myself, “Meagan, you have yet to do your good deed of the day. And this deed has the potential to help more than just one poor soul, it can help many!” So here it is, kiddies:

The technical definition from Miriam-Webster Dictionary:

1. a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2. a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual

Made easier to understand by Urban Dictionary: (Just in case you had to look up any of the words in the previous definition.)

1. Your body’s natural defense against stupid.
2. Noun. A very British form of humor which derives laughs from saying something while really meaning something else. Often (though not always, contrary to popular belief) used in scathing remarks. The word ‘Sarcasm’ is derived from a Greek word meaning ‘tearing flesh’.
3. Gift for intelligent, ability to compose messages which questions another’s intellect.
4. To say the opposite of what is obvious.
5. With the use of it any word can be turned into a fuck you statement with undertones of absolute contempt.
